Carbon Partnership - Education

Our climate change education work focuses on facilitating a clear understanding of strategic climate change issues locally, regionally and nationally. This educational service includes the clear delivery of:Teaching award

  • up to date climate change science and earth system processes
  • climate change risk analysis
  • climate policy measures available to address these risks (mitigation and adaptation measures)
  • an understanding of emissions trading and carbon markets

We cater to small or large audiences, and work across different communication media (courses, seminars, audio recordings, video, web, small groups and one to one).

Dr Sean Weaver has over 10 years experience in tertiary climate change and global change education and is the recipient of 6 teaching excellence awards at Victoria University of Wellington including three times awarded best lecturer in the Science Faculty (by student vote). He won a National Tertiary Teaching Excellence Award in 2008. He is a member of the Ako Aotearoa National Academy of Tertiary Teaching Excellence.

Our recent educational projects include:

  • Postgraduate research supervision (Sean Weaver has a contract to supervise 5 postgraduate research students per year in the Environmental Studies Program at Victoria University of Wellington).
  • University courses at Victoria University of Wellington (Environment and Resources: the foundations; Advanced Environment and Resources: Global Issues - voted most stimulating and challenging course in the university in 2005).
  • Ekodo - a professional development mentoring program for those working in the environmental sector. See the Ekodo Facebook page here.
  • Climate change science and policy training workshops with the Vanuatu Government (2007, 2008, 2009); Climate change and deforestation workshop with the Fiji Govermnent (2009).
  • Editing/peer reviewing resource management educational resouce material for Learning Media (2009)
