Fiji REDD

Carbon Partnership has been assisting the Fiji Government with its national programme for reducing emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD). In May 2009 we provided the lead consulting advice to a National Planning Workshop to develop a national REDD programme.

In September 2009 we ran the Fiji National REDD Policy & Scoping Workshop combining policy and technical training with the development of a national REDD strategy framework. This involved a technical capability and data assessment and a plan for the development of Fiji's national forest carbon monitoring programme.

Pacific Heads of Forestry

Carbon Partnership contriubuted to the 2009 Pacific Heads of Forestry Meeting in Nadi by providing expert presentations and advice on Forests and Climate and REDD.

Vanuatu Climate Change Programme

Carbon Partnership has worked closely with the Vanuatu Government since 2006 to develop its national climate change mitigation programme.This included:

  • initiating a national programme to reduce emissions from deforestation and degradation (REDD)
  • preparing the Vanuatu REDD Readiness Plan Idea Note (R-PIN) for World Bank REDD support
  • undertaking a national forest area change assessment to build a starting point for the national forest carbon monitoring system
  • running a national scoping workshop for a national climate change mitigation programme focusing on the forest and energy sectors
  • fund raising at the European Commission for the Vanuatu climate change adaptation programme and securing €3.5 million for the implementation of the National Adaptation Programme of Action (NAPA)
  • Representing Vanuatu in international policy negotiations at the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change
  • Assisted in the establishment of the Vanuatu Designated National Authority (DNA)
  • research on the economic feasibility of a fuel swap from fossil diesel to coconut oil-based biodiesel for grid connected electricity
